Jodi Martin Live

Now that I've seen the cover of Jodi Martin's first album Water and Wood, I realise that I'd heard of her before walking in and finding her supporting The Waifs. I remember that I'd made a mental note to check out Water and Wood after hearing a snippet of it somewhere... although I clearly forgot.

We walked in part way through Jodi Martin's support spot for The Waifs at the Canberra Theatre - the name of the support hadn't been advertised in any obvious way. I was stunned by the first song she played, although I have no idea of the song's title - hopefully it will be on one of her albums when I buy them. Initially, she sang, accompanying herself on guitar, though she finished the set with the help of a drummer.

Jodi Martin plays rootsy folk music with a bunch of different influences. She seems to write some great songs and seems confident of her talent - confidence is a good thing to have when you're faced with 1300 people, most of whom probably haven't heard of you.

This time I'm not going to forget to buy her albums. Artists like this need to be supported...
