I saw Cowboy Junkies Lay It Down at Amoeba Music in August 2004, a couple of weeks after I'd seen the band in Austin, and decided that sooner or later I would probably own all of their albums, so I might as well make one of our suitcases just a little bit heavier. I listened to it today because I think it is similar to one I listened to yesterday: Pale Sun Crescent Moon. Again, no highlights that I want to rave about - this album is good and solid enough that I don't even want to try picking it apart.
I can't believe that I hadn't heard of Cowboy Junkies before last month. Albums like this are one reason why I like listening to albums (as opposed to singles or even compilations): you get a particular musical experience that lasts for over half an hour. I hope downloadable music doesn't kill the idea of albums in favour of individual 3 minute downloadable singles. That would be a shame...
